More than 50 different knots are included in this book. That number is largely made up of theme and variations on 25 or so specially chosen knots, to meet most, if not all, of the needs which will be met in the ordinary way of practical ropework.
For the principal knots, there are step-by-step pictures of their tying, which show the operation from the point of view of the person doing the tying. Some of the knots are quite complex, and even simple ones can seem at first sight to represent something like a Chinese puzzle, so it will be helpful when making the first attempts at a knot if the rope or cord is laid out on a table-top or floor so as to copy the shapes on the page. After being mastered in this way the knot can then be tied in hand, and repeated practice is strongly recommended.
