One catches one's breath at first sight of Mr Briscoe's picture, old-time experience half-forgotten is revived by the masterly brush. To the uninitiated there may seem exaggeration in it; to those who know, it is just truth and reality. In weather depicted in the picture there was joy to no one, high latitudes, long nights, the ship putting her lee rail right under, as here shown and many more memories are conjured up for us by the artist.
